"Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants."

Recruitment of a NEW Governer

We are now recruiting for a new Governor.

A recent Skills Audit has shown which skills we need to continue the focus on improving the school:

  • Financial – experience in handling business accounts, budgeting, financial self- evaluation and efficiency drives, interpreting financial data and questioning financial performance against strategic priorities and some experience of property and estate management.

  • Health and Safety – experience and knowledge of health and safety requirements for the premises, staff and pupils.

  • Safeguarding – an understanding of the importance and duties of the Board in relation to safeguarding and Prevent.

  • Previous experience of working with leaders to establish expectations to improve outcomes.

  • An understanding of Strategic Leadership

  • Electronic Communication skills – a working knowledge of data systems and a level of proficiency in emails, website navigation etc. All meetings are via Zoom and the candidate is requested that they attend and become very familiar with the technology.

Prospective Governors need to understand that there is a commitment of time and they should be able to attend full Board meetings and Committee meetings regularly.  We expect all governors to have a dedication to St James’ Lanehead. Governors act as a board and not with their own interests. Governors are also confidential and must withhold the Nolan Principles of leadership.

A full induction is given to all new Governors and a Governor should also be willing to undertake other relevant courses.

In order for the school to continue its ongoing improvement it is vital that we have a strong and committed Board.

If you require further information about being elected to the governing board, please contact the school office who will be able to help you further. Any interested candidates are very welcome to discuss the position with the Chair of Governors, Janet Hartley. Contact details are available from the school office. School will undertake an informal interview of the candidate before agreeing to the recruitment. Being a Governor is a demanding role and people should only consider becoming a Governor if they are prepared to undertake the role fully.

Kind Regards,

The Governing Body of St James’ Lanehead Primary School
